About Neuroscience Ph.D. Program

With the neuroscience doctorate program launched in 2007, it was aimed to raise the scientific quality of academic staff by raising doctorate students open to cooperation from different disciplines of our university, providing opportunities for the researches that these doctoral students will do during and after their education, and contributing to scientific cooperation between universities by developing joint research projects with different universities. The neuroscience doctoral program candidates are chosen primarily from faculty members from different disciplines and research assistants who are interested in neuroscience.

The neuroscience laboratory, where multidisciplinary brain and nervous system studies are conducted, was established with the international support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Numerous international and national projects have been completed in the neuroscience laboratory, medical specialization and neuroscience doctoral theses have been made and awards have been received with these researches.

Neuroscience symposiums: Neurology and mind problems with the transdisciplinary approach of social, science and health sciences have been handled for the first time with the neurophilosophy symposiums organized for seven years. With these meetings, the infrastructure for interdisciplinary studies in neuroscience has been established.

Faculty members working in different disciplines in our center (Prof. Hayrunnisa BOLAY BELEN-Neuroscience, Algology, Prof. Meltem BAHÇELİOĞLU-Anatomy, Neuroscience, Prof.Aylar POYRAZ-Pathology, Prof. Bülent CENGİZ-Neurology, Professor Didem Tuba AKÇALI-Anesthesiology, Algology, Associate Professor Ergin DİLEKÖZ-Medical Pharmacology, Associate Professor İrem YILDIRIM-Neurology, Associate Professor Hale Zeynep BATUR ÇAĞLAYAN-Neurology) and students are actively involved. The Neuroscience Doctorate program is affiliated to the Graduate School of Health Sciences. Decisions are taken at the center with the approval of the faculty members in the related course committee.

Multidisciplinary research is carried out in the neuroscience laboratory, including international joint projects. Doctoral students continue their research and doctoral thesis in the neuroscience laboratory. Researches and therefore expenditures are made within the scope of projects. The researches are carried out with the approval of the center director and other faculty members of the neuroscience program. Gazi Scientific research projects, NIH, Tübitak, TÜBA supported projects are conducted.

Within the framework of the Institute of Health Sciences Neuroscience Doctorate program, theoretical lectures, laboratory techniques lectures, weekly laboratory meetings, researches and doctoral dissertations are carried out in the Neuroscience Laboratory.

Detailed information about the Neuroscience doctorate program, courses and ECTS credits can be found on Gazi University Information Package.

In our neuroscience doctorate program, 3 doctoral students are trained in the field of human brain and neuroscience with the YÖK 100/2000 program.

Our neuroscience doctoral program has been accepted into the European Network of Neuroscience Schools (NENS). In this way, our doctoral program students will have the opportunity to learn new techniques by going to the neuroscience laboratories included in the union for research and education purposes.
